It had just rained in Austin and now the beautiful colors of a rainbow spread across the sky. The rainbow reminded Zachary Richardson of the story of Noah's Ark and of God's promise. Zachary had heard the story many times and knew it by heart.

In a time of many wicked people, God saw that Noah was the only good man on Earth. He told Noah that a great flood was coming. Noah was to build a huge ark and place his family and two of every creature on Earth inside it. God would save only them from the flood.
Page 5
"I think it would be fun to make my own picture book about Noah's Ark," thought Zachary. "I'll make one and surprise Bryce and Benjamin." He got out his paper, some pencils and crayons and went to work.
Page 6
The first thing for Zachary to draw was Noah and his family. The picture included Noah's wife, his three sons, Shem, Japheth, and Ham, and their wives.
Page 7
Next came the ark, of course. God had told Noah exactly how to build it. Zachary thought, "The ark in the picture needs to look big enough and sturdy enough to hold all the animals."
Page 8
Then Zachary began drawing the animals. "Let's see," thought Zachary. "First I will put in some giraffes and some monkeys. Next I will draw the zebras and then the peacocks." Finally all the animals were pictured in the ark.
Page 9
"Bryce and Benjamin will be proud when they see how nice my book is," thought Zachary. Drawing the ark and all the animals allowed Zachary to understand just how big a job it was that God had given Noah.
Page 10
With all the animals on board, Zachary drew the ark rising and falling in the swirling waters. It had rained for forty days and forty nights until all the Earth was covered with water and the ark was high above the tallest mountain.
Page 11
Zachary knew that Noah's family and the animals had spent months going up and down, up and down, with no land in sight. "It must have been lonely on the ark, and very crowded at the same time," thought Zachary.
Page 12
Just think how noisy and confused the ark must have been. Zachary pictured ducks quacking, lions roaring, elephants trumpeting, dogs chasing cats - what a sight!
Page 13
Noah looked out the window of the ark for any sight of land. There was nothing to be seen but water everywhere. When would God make the water go down?
Page 14
Zachary knew that 150 days passed before the water began to go down. God caused a wind to blow away the storm. Slowly the mountaintops rose above the water. The ark finally came to rest upon a mountaintop. Noah sent forth a raven and a dove to look for land.
Page 15
The raven just flew back and forth over the water. The dove came back to the ark because it could find no place to land. Noah waited seven days and sent the dove out again. Zachary remembered that this time the dove returned carrying an olive branch.
Page 16
Noah knew that at least the treetops were now above water. He waited seven days more and once again sent out the dove. This time the dove did not come back. Noah knew that it had found land. God told Noah that now it was safe to leave the ark.
Page 17
Zachary drew a picture of the animals leaving the ark. They ran off happily in all directions, glad to be back on dry land.
Page 18
God placed a brilliant, shining rainbow in the sky. He told Noah that He would never again send such a flood over the Earth. He showed Noah the rainbow and said it was a sign of His promise. Zachary was finished with his book. Bryce and Benjamin thought the book was wonderful.
