Zachary Richardson was the happiest kid in Austin, Texas. He had just learned a wonderful secret. "God loves me," Zachary said to himself. "I can't wait to tell someone. But I can't tell Michael and Ryan until tonight. Who can I tell my secret to now?"

In the backyard a ladybug crawled on a flower. "Hi, ladybug. Hi, flower," Zachary told them. "The two of you are pretty together. Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Page 5

"God loves you too," Zachary said, "and you are special. God loves Michael and Ryan too." The ladybug buzzed her wings. The flower nodded in agreement.

Up in the tree, a curious squirrel peeped down. The tree branch swayed in the gentle breeze. "Hi, squirrel. Hi, tree," said Zachary. "You are having so much fun together. Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Zachary told the squirrel, "God loves you too, and you are special." The squirrel scampered up and down the tree branch. The tree rustled its leaves.

A puppy looked at Zachary through the hedge in the yard. When he saw him, he bounced over. "Hi, puppy. You are so happy. Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Page 9

"God loves you too," Zachary said, "and you are special. Just wait until I tell Michael and Ryan." The puppy wagged all over.

A bird flew up and landed on the fence. A hummingbird hovered. They listened as Zachary told them, "Hi, bird. Hi, hummingbird. You are so lucky to be able to fly. Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Page 11

"God loves you too," Zachary sang, "and you are special." The bird trilled a beautiful song while the hummingbird danced.

A raindrop! Then there were many drops. Zachary made a quick run to the porch where it was dry and safe. A kitten scooted by with a soft, "Meow." "Hi, kitten," said Zachary. "You are so soft. Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Page 13

"God loves you too and you are special," Zachary told the kitty. The kitten purred and almost seemed to smile at Zachary as it rolled onto its back.

The rain stopped and a colorful rainbow arched across the sky. A butterfly floated toward Zachary. "Hi, rainbow. Hi, butterfly. How beautiful you are," Zachary told them. "Do you know what? God loves me. And guess what else?"

Page 15

"God loves you too, and you are special." Zachary laughed when a double rainbow flashed in the sky and the butterfly fluttered her wings.

The daylight faded. All the backyard friends began to settle for the night. It was time to go inside, but Zachary was tempted to linger and watch the moon and the first evening stars appear.

Page 17

Just then, Zachary saw Michael and Ryan. Zachary said, "Guess what? God loves me and He loves you too!" As they went inside, Zachary looked up and whispered, "Hi, moon. Hi, stars. Do you know what? God loves me, and I am special. And guess what else?"

Page 18

"God loves you too and that makes you special. He loves everyone and each of us has a special place in the world." And the moon smiled and the stars twinkled a soft 'goodnight.'
